Do you have the skills and experience needed to help shape the future of a thriving Community Hub, which supports some of the most vulnerable families in North West London through our Food Bank, Community Kitchen and Edible Garden?

Sufra NW London is a Community Hub that provides a lifeline to people in crisis – including families living in extreme poverty and people who are vulnerable, homeless or socially isolated. We provide them with the food and support they need to survive, empower them to learn new skills and improve their wellbeing, and help them to find work and become financially stable.

Our core work focuses on providing emergency food aid through our Food Bank and Community Kitchen, but these are gateway services that enable our service users (we call them guests) to access a wider range of services and activities designed to address the root causes of poverty and homelessness. Our services include:

Each of these services is designed to lead vulnerable people on a personal journey from crisis to economic stability, social inclusion and active participation in the community. We rely heavily on our dedicated volunteers to ensure that we can deliver our services, and we work closely with local churches, mosques, schools and voluntary sector organisation for wide range of support.

The Role of Trustee at Sufra NW London

Some of our Trustees are rotating off the board this year so we’re looking for additional Trustees to fill their places. In particular, we’re looking for applicants who can demonstrate a local connection to North-West London (working, living or closely associated with NW London), and who possess skills in at least one of the following areas:

  • Legal
  • Finance
  • Human resources
  • Voluntary Sector Experience
  • Fundraising (especially grant-fundraising)
  • Welfare & Advocacy Services (especially asylum-seekers/refugees)

We value diversity in the charity and welcome applicants of different faiths and cultural backgrounds.

Food Bank Supervisor (Voluntary)

With demand rocketing at the Food Bank, we are looking for experienced volunteers to supervise Food Bank sessions on Wednesdays and Sundays between 11:30am and 3:30pm.

As Food Bank Supervisor, you will need to be confident in leading the team and supporting volunteers to provide an effective and compassionate service to the most vulnerable in the community. You will have a good grasp of key policies and procedures (training provided) and have the tact and diplomacy to mediate in sticky situations.

We kindly request either a weekly commitment for 6 months OR a fortnightly commitment for 12 months. You should also be able to attend volunteer meetings and training days on Saturdays every 2 months.

To apply for this role, please submit a CV, Covering Letter (no more than 200 words) and Equal Opportunities Form (available here) by email to admin@sufra-nwlondon.org.uk.

Community Kitchen Front-of-House Supervisor (Voluntary)

We’ve all experienced lousy service at a restaurant and just because our Community Kitchen guests are usually the homeless, disabled and infirm – as well as low-income families – we don’t expect to provide them with anything less than a first-class dining experience.

We’re looking for a friendly host to supervise the Community Kitchen on Friday evenings from 6pm to 9pm.

You must be able to smile and make all our guests feel special. In the midst of a busy service you will allocate seats for incoming guests, coordinate food service and support volunteers to meet the demand of our hungry guests. You will also need to intervene with the occasional difficult guest who doesn’t quite understand that the “no takeaways” rule applies to everyone.
