Food Aid

Sufra NW London is a local charity established in 2013 to address both the causes and consequences of impoverishment in the community.

Based on St. Raphael’s Estate, Brent’s most disadvantaged neighbourhood, our Community Hub provides a life-line for people in crisis – including families living in extreme poverty and people who are vulnerable, homeless and socially isolated.

We provide our ‘guests’ with the food and support they urgently need to survive, empower them to learn new skills and improve their wellbeing, and help them find work and become financially stable.

By working together and harnessing the goodwill of our neighbours, we build a stronger community where no one suffers alone in silence.

Donate Food

Our Food Bank provides emergency supplies of essential food and toiletries to individuals and families experiencing acute crisis. Our parcels are typically made up of a mixture of non-perishable and perishable items. Examples of what you might find in a food parcel are below, although exact contents vary from week to week depending on our donations. The size of our food parcels vary depending on the size of the household, and they typically last 5 to 7 days.

Per our policy, on an initial referral to the Food Bank all guests can collect up to 6 parcels. These can be collected consecutively, or spaced out depending on the guests needs. After the initial 6 parcels have been received, if further support is needed the guest must contact Brent Hubs to access their advice and guidance. This can be done on the phone, or in person.

Store cupboard items: rice, pasta, noodles, tinned soup, tinned fish, teabags, cooking sauces, oil, sugar, long-life milk etc.

Fresh items: fruit, vegetables, bread, pastries, etc.

Food Bank Collection Service

Our Food Bank collection service operates from 2 Hubs across the Borough, and guests can collect from the Hub most convenient to them. Our 2 Hubs are;

We have a limited delivery service for guests unable to leave the house, and with nobody to collect on their behalf.

Fresh Meal Service

Similarly to the Food Bank, this service is specifically for guests in financial crisis, however the Fresh Meal Service is specifically tailored to those who cannot prepare food for themselves using raw ingredients. This may be due to due to lack of cooking facilities or long-term health conditions.

Once referred to this service, guests will receive a delivery once a week, for 6 weeks. The delivery will include a range of nutritious meals cooked each week. Some will be fresh, some frozen, allowing the guest to eat them throughout the week. Each guest also receives an ‘easy-eat’ parcel, with some easy to prepare basics, such as teabags, cuppa soup and other easy to prepare snacks.

If the guest is still in need of this service beyond 6 weeks, they must call through to Brent Hubs for a further Assessment on 0208 937 1234.

We also regularly partner with local organisations to provide them with weekly ready meals for their warm spaces or alongside distributed winter warmer packs. Our most recent partnerships have been with Who Is Hussain, for a weekly street food distribution and the Kiln Theatre as part of an open community space.
