CWP (almost) Final Farewell at Bridge Park Community Kitchen

Although the Community Wellbeing Project’s final farewell at our Bridge Park Community Kitchen on September 30th turned out not to be our last evening in the space, it was nevertheless a great success! It is not without pride that we realised at the end of the night that we had served over 200 meals, what a remarkable turnout. Never had we seen so many people in the space. The day was a true testament to teamwork, with an impressive number of volunteers and staff coming together to ensure everything ran smoothly. We were honoured to have Mayor Of Brent Tariq Dar joining us, lending a helping hand in the kitchen and contributing to the positive atmosphere that filled the space.

As laughter and conversation echoed throughout the hall, we felt immense gratitude for everyone who came to celebrate this milestone with us. Together, we created not just delicious meals, but also lasting memories and a sense of community that will resonate long after the project’s conclusion.

“During a time of worldwide isolation, Bridge Park Community Centre has brought us altogether in the name of charity.”

“Thank you for all the good times and laughs and to all the wonderful special people I have met.”

As we prepare to say goodbye to the Community Wellbeing Project, it gives us time to reflect on our journey over the past years and recognise the achievements we’ve made together.

Our Community Wellbeing Project (CWP) was established in February 2023, as an alternative model of holistic support to support families with the rising cost of living. Rather than distributing food parcels via a typical food bank referral, membership to the CWP provides a whole range of services including access to food, welfare information, advice and guidance, children’s activities, community and wellbeing support, and gym memberships.

Since the first CWP member completed their shop in February 2023, the project has grown tremendously, serving up to 546 registered households. Adding our Community Kitchen evenings, we have estimated that over a 1,000 people per year have come through the CWP.

This remarkable progress would not have been possible without the dedication of our incredible team of volunteers, who gave their time for the project – some since the very beginning – contributing to a positive and welcoming environment as well as providing support for our guests. Sufra is also immensely grateful for our Community Chef Jas, who has tirelessly prepared nutritious and delicious meals each week, taking the time to train volunteers in the kitchen while always being thoughtful for people around him.

Thank you to everyone who came to Bridge Park, to enjoy some hot food or to give a hand, you all contributed to making this space a special community hub which will not be forgotten.

Despite this big farewell celebration, Bridge Park Community Kitchen will remain open through October and November as we are finalising the details of our move to a new location.
