Being a Trustee at Sufra

Is This Role for You?

  • Are you interested in making a positive difference in Brent?
  • Can you help provide strategic guidance to our work through your personal or professional experience?
  • Do you have approximately 8 hours each month to dedicate to Sufra?

If any of the above apply to you, then becoming a trustee of Sufra NW London may be a rewarding and enjoyable experience for you.

About Us

We are a community organisation that provides a lifeline to people in crisis, including families living in extreme poverty and people who are socially isolated or have nowhere else to turn. We work with our guests so they can do more for themselves – whether they’re experiencing homelessness, seeking asylum and refuge, or facing other types of acute hardship.

With one of the highest rent-to-income ratios in London, many households in Brent are struggling to feed themselves and their families. Whilst our core work focuses on providing emergency food aid through our network of Food Banks and Community Kitchens in Brent, these are gateway services that enable our guests to access a wider programme of activities including a welfare advice service, refugee support, food growing, accredited training and community engagement. Combined, these activities are designed to support people on a journey from crisis to stability.

We are a small but mighty organisation that is growing rapidly. We are looking for two new trustees (one general and one secretary) with a clear understanding of social welfare and the ability to think strategically.

About the Role

As a Trustee, you will be responsible for our strategic development and maintaining the high governance standards, whilst supporting the Senior Leadership Team to ensure Sufra fulfils its duty to our guests and delivers on its vision, mission and values. You can expect to be involved in discussions around fundraising, planning and decision making, whilst supporting the organisation to grow and develop in accordance with legal and regulatory guidelines. We are encouraging applications from people with a wide range of professional experience.

About you

As we enter an exciting phase in our development, we are looking for people with vision and creativity, integrity and commitment, passion for the voluntary sector, an innovative approach, and a willingness to learn. We hope to attract people who bring experience and knowledge of Brent, as well as people who come from a wide range of ages, backgrounds, ethnic groups, as well as people who have experienced poverty or migration first hand.

How to apply

To apply for this role, please submit a CV, Covering Letter by email to admin@sufra-nwlondon.org.uk, and complete our Equal Opportunities Form. The deadline for applications is 31st of January 2024.
