We are also proud of the impact the project has had on our guests.
- On average, guests reported feeling more confident accessing local support services
- Members reported an increase in their disposable income, thanks to the financial relief provided by the project
- Members reported an improvement in their mental health and wellbeing, including their stress levels, optimism about the future and confidence
Hear from some of our members:
‘I feel like there are people who care and I feel looked after. My mental health has improved.’
“It provides brightness for me! I sit and chat to other people, everyone is willing to help. No one talks down to you like you are poor and not worth it. No pity!”
“Without the project, I would be without hope that my situation can change and I don’t have the breathing space for taking the first steps in moving forward.”
“By getting food that is nutritious to feed my child without the huge cost of a supermarket shop has meant I’ve been able to make my money stretch and I’m almost out of debt. Plus the food is fresh fruit and veg which has encouraged my son and me to try out new recipes.”
What is included in the membership?
Community Shop
- Members shop once a week and the £4 membership fee is paid at this point.
- Members shop for essential groceries, toiletries, cleaning products and fruit and vegetables.
Community Café
- Members eat for free at the café by presenting their membership card.
- The Community Café uses much of the fresh produce from the aforementioned redistributed surplus as part of the menu, ensuring that there is as little food waste as possible.
Wraparound Support
- Advisors develop a Personal Development Plan for each member. This is a personalised goal-oriented plan, created in partnership with the member around financial and personal wellbeing and resilience.
- Support is available for guests from organisations such as Department for Works and Pensions, Shaw Trust, Green Doctors, Advice4Renters, Public Health, Central London Community Healthcare NHS Trust, Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust, Brent Start, Citizen’s Advice Bureau, Law Stop and Christians Against Poverty.
- Gym memberships for the Bridge Park Leisure Centre for adults and Juniors, including classes and the sauna are available for free to all members and their families.
Community Kitchen
- The two evening Community Kitchen sessions hosted at the Community Wellbeing Project are an extension of an existing Sufra NW London’s borough-wide network of open access meals available to all.
- The Community Kitchen is free to both members and non-members, no referral or booking needed, and provides a free, and nutritious three course meal.
- The kitchen also works as a gateway for non-members into Sufra services, as a welcoming space to local residents who are isolated or lonely.
- With Chef oversight, the meals are prepared and served by volunteers.
