BTS of the ‘With Us All’ project

Sufra have partnered with Metroland Cultures and the residents at St. Raph’s Estate to build an exciting new sculpture at St Raph’s Edible Garden – also known as the With Us All project. With Us All is Metroland’s final Community Commission from the 2022 Brent Biennial.

Last summer, three proposals for an artistic project in St. Raph’s were presented to the residents of the estate, who then voted on their favourite presentation.

The winning project was presented by artist Sean Roy Parker, who has created a design for a bright and welcoming glasshouse made of reclaimed windows and waste wood, with materials donated from the community. It will be filled with second-hand tools and prompts for new ways to connect with and enjoy the natural world.

Over the summer we offered workshops to explore the garden through writing with Priya Jay, and foraging for healing herbs with Rights For Weeds.

During October we were busy with the construction of the glasshouse, including installing it on site. Sufra and Metroland Cultures held carpentry workshops with community facilitators Jack Narbed and Hannah Lily Lanyon where local residents could take part in the build and construction.

Each participant also received a free, veggie lunch freshly-cooked by Roy himself in Sufra’s kitchen.

It is the culmination of a year-long process of community involvement and creative work and we’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who got involved along the way.
