Refugee Week at the Community Wellbeing Service
July 17, 2026
The Community Wellbeing Service celebrated Refugee Week 2026 by exploring this year's theme, 'Courage', through a range of wellbeing activities led by our facilitators and volunteers.
Brave New Words
Co-created with two Sufra volunteers who later became facilitators, Brave New Words was a series of 3 creative writing workshops for adults and children. Members were encouraged to write either in English or in their own language, reflecting on the theme of courage and sharing their stories through a mix of individual and group activities.

Nancy's Arts and Crafts
During the weekly Arts and Crafts sessions with Nancy, members created a collaborative mosaic, with each person contributing their own piece of artwork. The finished art pieced was displayed in our café, and highlighted the diversity of our Community Wellbeing Service.

International Day
During Refugee Week, we also held an International Day celebration in response to popular demand from our members. Led by our volunteer Somia, who has become a wonderful ambassador and voice for the community, members came together through traditional dress, henna, music, and games.
Creations from the Arts and Crafts group and Brave New Words were displayed together in a collaborative exhibition.
