A Merry Christmas for Mr. M!
Mr. M, a father of three, came to Sufra after an injury forced him out of work. Facing winter on statutory sick pay and Universal Credit, he was terrified his family would lose up to £1,700 a month due to the benefit cap. Coming to Sufra meant that he was able to access emergency food aid and hot meals for his family. Our advice team reviewed his situation, explained his rights, and helped him avoid the cap by securing a safer, alternative job with his employer. Thanks to timely support, Mr. M kept his income steady and his children warm and fed through the toughest months.
Mrs P - Energy & Debt Support
When Mrs. P, a carer for her disabled son, came to Sufra overwhelmed by confusing utility debt, our team stepped in. Alongside providing food parcels for her family, we checked her benefits, helped her apply for the resident support fund, and spoke directly to her utility company to untangle the bills. We discovered she’d been paying off arrears but not her ongoing usage—so the debt kept growing. With our support, Mrs. P set up an affordable payment plan, switched to a cheaper tariff, and joined the priority services register. Now, she’s in control of her bills and her family’s wellbeing, with more money left for essentials like food and heating.
